Coast International

Sunday 24th July 2016

Yesterday Coast ran their first international SW broadcast on 6205 kHz from 1500-1800 UTC. This programme went out on the SW channel only and was not streamed. The plan is to broadcast the show each Sunday and it is aimed at international listeners and DXers. Early in the show the presenter made mention of Terry's Radio Blog and gave greetings to me.
The show was a mixture of listener reports and classic tunes. I was able to listen directly on 6205 kHz, but propagation was not great and the SINPO was around 2-35333. The signal was poor on the Enschede SDR, but much better on the Stafford and Bedford SDRs. I wanted to record some of the programme, which is why I used the SDRs.
The signal dropped out of the Stafford SDR before the end of the show and I missed the end of the programme.

I am sure the programming will develop and change over the next few weeks, so maybe it is up to us in the listening fraternity to tell Coast what we think of their new venture. It is certainly good news to see a station using the shortwaves, rather than closing the service down! A good start, all in all.
